Geotechnical Engineering

CRW provides geotechnical engineering services with extensive experience working in both urban and rural Alaska. CRW’s experience in geotechnical engineering includes early project involvement like site explorations and preparing project geotechnical reports. Our analysis and design experience in geotechnical engineering include shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, slope stability, pavements, frozen ground, ground improvement, and geosynethics. During construction our geotechnical engineers are well equipped to aid in tasks like dewatering and temporary excavations as well as inspection and testing including pile driving, soil compaction, and vibration monitoring.

CRW’s geotechnical staff have experience working in challenging soil that include expansive, collapsible, liquefiable, and soft soils in addition to warm and cold permafrost. CRW understands the challenges unique to Alaska, particularly those in rural communities, and strives to provide geotechnical solutions for an ever changing world. Our staff works to align themselves with the client’s vision and works hard to complete the work and deliver quality products on which our clients can rely. CRW endeavors to find creative and unique solutions to  the client’s needs on each and every project.

Steven is the newest member to CRW’s leadership team, he joined the firm in 2018 to lead the geotechnical engineering efforts. He has earned a BS and MS degree in Civil Engineering, a second MS degree in Arctic Engineering, and is currently working on his Doctoral degree in Geotechnical Engineering. In addition to his college education, Steven holds several certificates including Earthquake Engineering, OSHA Construction, MSHA Surface Mine Safety, Tunnel Safety Inspection and High-Strain Dynamic Testing. Additionally, he is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Geo-Institute, and the Association of State Dam Safety Officials. Steven has 10-years of Geotechnical Engineering experience in Alaska including all the services listed below.
