Environmental-Water Testing and Analysis

The public water system contained elevated levels of organics and had limited capacity to meet summer water demands. Upgrades included a direct filtration process, coagulant injection system, and pH adjustment system. CRW performed engineering services including preliminary jar testing, a pilot study, design of the proposed upgrades, procurement, construction administration, and both project startup and closeout.

The project upgrades involved removing over 30 years of sludge buildup and installing two, 30,000-gallon septic tanks to limit future buildup. A floating suction dredge was used to remove sludge, which was dewatered in geosynthetic geotubes. Geotubes were buried in the lagoon dikes to aid in protection from flooding; this unique alternative saved approximately $3 million as compared to the standard “closeout and replace” option.
