CRW prepared the structural design for the replacement of the existing Lower Kuskokwim School District Bethel Campus Utilidors. The Utilidor system consisted of an underground section constructed with steel-framing; an above-ground section constructed of wood-framing that was founded on piles; and a hanging utilidor system constructed of wood-framing that was connected to the existing High School framing. The underground section is located below one of the main road entrances to the school and was designed to support a wheel load of 45,000 pounds. The hanging section below the High School required an evaluation of the schools existing floor system prior to adding the new utilidor weight. Structural design also reviewed the wind loading and earthquake loadings on the utilidor sections.
