The Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) intends the E Street Corridor to become a major focal point in Anchorage’s Central Business District, offering benefits to both seasonal visitors and year round residents. Despite its strategic location as a backbone of downtown Anchorage, large portions of E Street are defined by narrow sidewalks, limited or nonexistent landscaping, and otherwise uninspiring streetscapes. Its redevelopment will provide a walkable and winter-friendly environment that encourages pedestrian activity and incorporates elements of smart growth, winter cities design, Alaskan native culture, and Anchorage’s historic past.

Redevelopment will also spur economic growth and lead to the development of a more vibrant downtown environment.
